Harley-Davidson Worn to be Wild

Harley-Davidson Worn to be Wild

With Christmas on the horizon, you might be thinking of a gift that will  will give you (remember Santa Gifts are allowed) or your loved ones that classic traditional biker look. It has been over a century since Harley Davidson made the first protective riding gear in 1912.

We borrowed the title for our blog from a 2012 exhibit at the Harley Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A trip through their virtual tour will show that the Harley Davidson brand was on Motorclothes from the early days. A Photo from 1914 Dodge City 300 mile race in Kansas shows jackets with the lettering very similar to the style of our Harley Davidson Leather Jacket item 66.

The five prints in item 70 trace the first 100 years since William Harley and Arthur Davidson developed the first engine designed to fit on a bicycle. Later improvements led to its own creation and the Harley Davidson Motorcycle was born. A great idea to go faster and as they say the rest is history.

Daring. Bold. Genuine Motorclothes and accessories can celebrate the rebel in all of us. Rooted in Harley Davidson classic heritage, these items express a biking spirit with both functional riding gear and commemorative gifts that are sure to please.

The Harley Davidson motorcycle jackets and vests acquired their symbolic identity over the last half of the 20th century. It evolved from earlier leather garments developed to protect their wearers from danger.  Adopted by rugged individualists who shared the love of an open road, Motorclothes have become crucial accessory of the fashion conscious or simply a way of showing your love for a classic motorcycle ride.

     Fire up the Grill!

Looking for a perfect recipe for Football Celebrations? Wings and the Weber Grill might be the answer! see item 84 in our current auction.

Weber Grills were invented in the early 50’s by George Stevens Sr. father of twelve. He based his design on a buey and took charcoal grilling to new heights. Later his company ventured into gas and electric grilling. Take time to visit Weber.com and be amazed.

Hot, Sweet, and Sticky Chicken Wings

Recipe from Weber's Big Book of Grilling by Jamie Purviance and Sandra S. McRae

20 chicken wings, about 3 pounds total, wing tips removed

For the MARINADE you will need

½ cup ketchup                                               ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar        4 teaspoons granulated garlic
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce               3 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard                             2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons pure chile powder                        Extra-virgin olive oil
In a medium bowl whisk the marinade ingredients. Place the wings in a large, resealable plastic bag and pour in the marinade. Press the air out of the bag and seal tightly. Turn the bag to distribute the marinade, place in a bowl, and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours, turning occasionally. Then when you are ready...Prepare the grill for direct and indirect cooking over medium heat (350° to 450°F).   Remove the wings from the bag and discard the marinade. Lightly brush the wings with oil. Brush the cooking grates clean. Sear the wings over direct medium heat, with the lid closed as much as possible, until well marked, 4 to 6 minutes, turning once. Then move them over indirect medium heat and continue cooking until the meat is no longer pink at the bone, 10 to 20 minutes, turning once or twice. If desired, during the final few minutes, move the wings over direct medium heat to crisp the skin a bit more, turning once or twice. Remove from the grill and serve warm.
